The clinic was established by Helen Ruane in 2012 to provide a convenient, friendly physiotherapy service for the people of Lymington and the New Forest. Initially situated in Pennington, I relocated the clinic to Milford on Sea in 2018.
I am a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 17 years of experience both in private practice and the NHS, and offer expert assessment and treatment for a wide range of muscular and joint problems including sports injuries, neck, back and joint pain. I run the clinic with support from my husband, Matthew, who works as a clinical specialist physiotherapist at University Hospital Southampton.
I aim to offer a personal approach to meet the individual needs of patients in a professional but relaxed environment.
I trained at Manchester School of Physiotherapy, and qualified as a physiotherapist with a BSc(Hons) Physiotherapy from the University of Manchester in 2003. I initially worked in a junior post at Manchester Royal Infirmary for two years, gaining experience in a wide range of areas of NHS care. I then chose to specialise in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal outpatients, and worked as a Specialist Physiotherapist at Manchester Royal Infirmary and a successful private practice in Cheshire, before relocating to the New Forest in 2010. I then worked for Southern Health NHS Trust at Andover Hospital and New Forest Hospital, Lymington until 2015.
I am committed to keeping up to date with the most recent research and evidence of the best assessment and treatment techniques, and studied at Masters Level to gain a Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) in Advanced Physiotherapy. I also have a Diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine and am qualified in using Acupuncture to treat musculoskeletal pain. I have also trained as a Pilates instructor with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI).
As well as running Lymington Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic, I am kept busy by my three young children, and when I can I enjoy walking, sea swimming, tennis and cycling. I am also a governor at my children’s school.
All enquiries are dealt with directly by a physiotherapist.
