About Us

About Us – the clinic

Lymington Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic was established by Helen Ruane in 2012 to provide a convenient, friendly physiotherapy service for the people of Lymington and the New Forest. Initially situated in Pennington, I relocated the clinic to Milford on Sea in 2018. I am a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 20 years of experience both in private practice and the NHS, and offer expert assessment and treatment for a wide range of muscular and joint problems, including sports injuries, neck pain, shoulder pain and back pain.

I run the clinic supported by my husband, Matt, who works as a spinal clinical specialist physiotherapist at University Hospital Southampton. Appointments with Matt are available at the clinic on Fridays.

About Me – Helen Ruane

Having grown up in Essex, I trained at Manchester School of Physiotherapy, and qualified as a physiotherapist with a BSc(Hons) Physiotherapy from the University of Manchester in 2003.

I initially worked in a junior post at Manchester Royal Infirmary for two years, gaining experience as a physiotherapist in a broad range of NHS care. I then chose to specialise in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal outpatients, and worked as a Specialist Physiotherapist both at Manchester Royal Infirmary, GP surgeries, and a private practice in Chester, before relocating to the New Forest in 2010. I then worked for Southern Health NHS Trust at Andover Hospital, Fordingbridge Hospital and New Forest Hospital Lymington, where I continued to work part time alongside running the clinic here until 2016.

I enjoy the flexibility that working in private practice brings, being able to spend as much time as needed with patients, without the limitations which sometimes exist within the NHS.

I am committed to keeping up to date with the most recent research and evidence of the best assessment and treatment techniques. I have attended many postgraduate training courses, and studied at Masters level, including modules in neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction and sports rehabilitation, leading to a Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) in Advance Physiotherapy.

I also have a diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine and I am qualified in using Acupuncture to treat musculoskeletal pain.

I have also trained as a Pilates Instructor with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI).
