About us

We set up the clinic to provide a convenient, friendly physiotherapy service for the people of Lymington and the New Forest. We pride ourselves in offering a personal approach to meet the individual needs of our clients in a professional but relaxed environment. We will work with you to help understand the cause of your injury or condition, and create a personalised plan to enable you to achieve optimum performance and well being, whatever your age or fitness.


HELEN RUANE

Helen qualified as a physiotherapist with a BSc(Hons) Physiotherapy from the University of Manchester in 2003. Since gaining general physiotherapy experience in a junior post for 2 years in a large teaching hospital in Manchester she has specialised in musculo-skeletal physiotherapy and worked as a Specialist Physiotherapist at Manchester Royal Infirmary and a successful private practice in Cheshire, before relocating to the New Forest. She is committed to keeping up to date with the most recent research and evidence of the best assessment and treatment techniques, and is currently studying towards an MSc in Manual Therapy. Helen has a Diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine and is qualified in using Acupuncture to treat musculoskeletal pain. She is also trained as a Pilates instructor with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI).

Helen also has an interest in pregnancy related pelvic girdle and back pain and has received specialist training to run FitBack and Bumps ante and post natal educational exercise programmes.

As well as running Lymington Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic, Helen currently works part time as a Senior Physiotherapist for Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, which enables her to keep in touch with other health professionals and orthopaedic consultants.


MATTHEW RUANE

Matthew also qualified from the University of Manchester in 2004 and worked at South Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for 2 years before specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, ultimately becoming Clinic Manager for a large private physiotherapy business in the North West, based at Lancashire County Cricket Club. Since 2010 he has worked as an Extended Scope Physiotherapist, working alongside orthopaedic consultants in the NHS in Hampshire, where he carries out specialist assessment and referral for surgery, imaging, and other investigations and treatment.  

Matthew is also trained to administer corticosteroid joint injections and is nearing completion of an MSc in Manual Therapy. He has a particular interest in sports injuries and spinal conditions. He is also trained in Acupuncture for pain relief.

Helen and Matthew live in Pennington, Lymington with their young son Luke, who keeps them active as well as enjoying walking, cycling and swimming. Helen is a member of the New Forest Orchestra and Matthew is goalkeeper for AFC Pennington.
